Identify the pet and its owner

A household may have more than one pet. Keep a separate insured-pet record linked to the owner, with the identifying information used in the issued policy. This helps avoid mixing up documents or follow-ups.

Retain the selected policy documents

Pet products can have different plans and selected benefits. Store the exact schedule and wording for the issued policy, along with documents requested by the insurer. Do not treat a product brochure as proof of the cover selected for a particular pet.

Keep follow-ups specific

Record which document or customer response is outstanding and who owns the next action. Link renewal conversations and service requests to the pet’s existing policy history.

What to keep with the record

  • Owner and insured-pet mapping
  • Selected policy schedule and wording
  • Requested documents and status
  • Renewal and service follow-ups
